The Remnant Presbyterian Church
The Renovation of the Remnant Community Center
Work continues on the renovation of our church building. Major structural renovations have been completed and the building is coming along nicely, but there is still much to be done. Please continue to pray that we would be able to move in by the end of the year. Our lease with the university where we are currently meeting expires at the end of this year and we would live to avoid going month-to-month.
Fall Church-Wide Retreat
From Friday evening to Sunday morning, October 10-12, we will be having our fall congregational retreat in Upstate New York. The theme will be Living in Victory and Pastor Mark Chun from Kairos Christian Church will be our guest speaker. Please pray that God will move the hearts of many of our church members to attend, that God will anoint Pastor Mark to speak with power, and everyone would experience a time of refreshing and renewal in their commitment to God.
A Growing College Ministry
Last year we began a new college ministry - Remnant Student Disciples – with a handful of local students. Now, entering our second year, that group has grown to about 20 students from NYU, Parsons, The School of Visual Arts, Hunter, Baruch and The Fashion Institute of Technology. Please pray for the continued growth of the group, for a firm foundation to be laid, and for God to continually fill the hearts of the staff members with love for our students.
Church of Southland Building Project
Church of Southland is currently in escrow to purchase a new church building! We praise God for this blessing! Currently we received a favorable decision from the City of Anaheim regarding the CUP (Conditional Use Permit). In addition to the GREAT news, our loan application has also been approved. Please continue to pray for us as we will be finishing our building fundraising campaign to raise $1 Million by August 27th. !
Grace Covenant Church
• We praise God for Pastor Barry Kang, his wife Sunny, & son, Caleb, from Church of Southland. He joined the GCC staff in April. He will be heading up the GCC Temple site and is being trained through our campus ministry to plant a campus church in the future.
• We want to praise God that in July we will be adding another person to our staff. Pastor David Alas will be joining us to grow and pastor the GCC Mainline Congregation. We are excited to welcome Pastor Dave, MiKyung and his three children to the GCC family.
The Journey Church of Atlanta
• College Retreat: We will be having a college retreat from Sept. 19-20. The theme of the retreat is "Origins" and our speaker will be Pastor Jong Park from Covenant Fellowship Church in Champaign, IL. We are expecting around 130 people to come to the retreat.
• University of Georgia: We have started reaching out to the University of Georgia. Pastor Matt is going up there on a weekly basis to build relationships with students in hopes of seeing if there is a ministry possibility long-term on that campus. There has been a small group of 5 people that I have met thus far. We hope to connect with more students throughout the fall.
• Ordination: Pastor Matt's ordination service will be Friday, October 3rd in Atlanta, GA.
4). Please pray for the continued maturation of our young adult ministry. We are praying that God will build this ministry in quantity and quality. We need people who feel "called" to help JCA build a strong foundation for young adult ministry. We're also praying for a pastor who can shepherd the young adults whether part-time or full-time.
HMCC
• HMCC of Ann Arbor: The Lord has graciously provided a building for HMCC of Ann Arbor. After a few months of negotiations and inspections, HMCC-AA recently signed a contract to purchase a building right on the University of Michigan campus. The church prays that this building be used to help reach the campus and community more effectively and also become a training center for missions work and church planting.
• HMCC of Austin: The HMCC of Austin church plant team left Ann Arbor on May 18th and made the long trek down to Austin. After three days of driving, with stops in Nashville and Dallas, the team made the journey safely and in good spirits. The team will utilize the rest of the summer to prepare for the church to be launched in August, when the University of Texas will begin their new school year.
• We just launched a new site in Downtown Chicago on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). We had our inaugural service on September 14th. We had ~70 in attendance and it was a great start to our ministry in the city of Chicago.
• Our outreach to new students at Northwestern has been ongoing and we have seen alot of new freshmen coming to our ministry. We had 30-40 of them visit our first few Sunday's of the school year. We are praying that God would raise up this freshmen class to be future leaders.
KAIROS CHRISTIAN CHURCH
We will be having a Leadership retreat Sep. 19-21 with Pastor Paul Kim from OTR as our guest speaker. Please pray for a time of equipping and planning as we prepare the servants for a new year of ministry. UCSD will be beginning Sep. 25 and so the ministry will be going back on campus. We want to expand our ministry to the incoming freshmen and incorporate them into the vision of our church. Pray that all of our activities and fellowship events will bear fruit on the campus. Our young adults have grown and are dividing into 5 different cell groups. We want to see further spiritual and numerical growth through these groups as well as godly leaders to nurture them.
